Our family has been in the steel fabrication business since 1951 - evolving from a one-man shop, to one of New England's leading steel fabricators. Scroll down to read about the history that has made us who we are today.
Capone Iron Corporation - Family Owned and Operated
In the mid 1950’s, Charles “Papa Charlie” Capone began fabricating ornamental iron products from the basement of his Winthrop, Massachusetts home.
Charlie moved his small operation to a one-car, corrugated metal garage on Spring Street in Everett, Massachusetts. During these years, Charlie operated as Modern Iron Works servicing residential and commercial clients in the greater Boston and North Shore areas.
As the demands for extended service territory and product line increased, Charlie expanded his shop area by renovating the old garage and constructing a small addition. This allowed him to introduce miscellaneous metals and light iron steel fabrication. During this decade, Charlie’s two older sons joined him in the business. He changed the name of his company to Capone Iron Works, Inc. and by the close of the 1970’s he moved the company to a larger facility on Betty Street in Everett, Massachusetts.
Capone Iron Works was fabricating and installing structural steel, bar joist, metal deck, ornamental, and miscellaneous metals for both the private and public sectors. Projects included schools, condominiums, warehouses, government buildings and hospitals. Over the course of this decade Charlie’s two younger sons also joined him in various roles within the business.
The 1990’s brought a time for transition. As the economy struggled it was time for Capone Iron Works to restructure and rebuild as well. Close to retirement, Charlie eased out of the day to day business while his sons took on leadership roles under his guidance and the name of the company changed one final time to Capone Iron Corporation.
Expansion was on the mind once again! With the ultimate goal to service all of the New England states and beyond, Capone Iron needed a much larger fabrication facility than the current Everett location. Nine acres of land was purchased in Rowley, Massachusetts and construction began on a 50,000 square foot steel fabrication plant. On June 24, 2002 Capone Iron Corporation officially commenced its Rowley operations.
